Topeka Zoo Day with the Family

Yesterday, B and I took his niece and nephew to the Topeka Zoo. Full disclosure: it was a little lame. A lot of the exhibits were either empty or not very well kept. That said, it still wasn’t a boring. We saw plenty of animals, just not as many as you might expect for a state’s capital city.

Zoo Renovations

The zoo is currently undergoing another renovation project. It feels like the Topeka Zoo has been under one renovation or another since I moved here. Still, I remain optimistic that one of these years we’ll finally have a zoo that lives up to expectations.

Highlights of the Day

In the meantime, one of my favorite spots is the Japanese Garden—tranquil, beautiful, and well kept. At the gift shop, I also found something neat: a bracelet that lets you “track” various endangered or threatened animals.

For obvious safety reasons, the app doesn’t show real-time tracking. The tracking is also intended for education and entertainment purposes. Still, I thought it was a cool concept.

A Fun Takeaway

I ended up buying one of the bracelets, and I think it’s a fun way to support conservation efforts. The bracelet cost is reasonable, and the money supports a worthy cause. The companion app is free, and works surprisingly well. If any family or friends are interested in one of these tracking bracelets, you may use my join link to earn $5.00 off your purchase.
